I like the fact that it takes a bit of work to get into this forum, that reflects the movie. You might consider making people write an essay on the film just to register. The only problem is that so far the work doesn't seem to have paid off for much...where are the discussions? Where's the in-depth visual analasis? And so on. Let's go! Over the past few months, Tarkovsky has become one of my favorite filmmakers, as I have begun watching his movies over and over and studying them. He is so unique, yet not very often praised as one of all time's elite filmmakers. At least in America. That's exactly the vibe! Incredible! I can give such an 'easy' access to those who don't work to get it. I think they call it 'causality'. Cause and Effect. I think people need a strong visual reference to the movie in order to grasp that the board is *NOT* about the 'stalkers' who kill rockstars. That's why the poster is put there. Hope it helps and... there will be more discussions!

Hope it helps and... there will be more discussions! I'm excitedly waiting for discussions to start. And I still feel that I shouldnt be the first one to break the silence. Better see what the elders have in mind about the future of the community. Then I'll put my 2 cents on the table.

the elders deem that the numbers of replies posted imply that our newbies must gather the strength and shake the stagnant minds.. we had some discussions going, about translations and even the clothes, as you can see, though it is rather an unpredictable process. we all more or less are stalkers, so we cannot be dependent on somebody to show the way, well?

Welcome to all the new members, who made the numbers climb over the remarkable step of 100, but nonetheless are staying unbelievably silent. No surprises though. Is there a possibility to return to some 20 members, Ferret? If a member stays silent a month after registering or the last post, let's wave goodbye. You do have a possibility to boot members from the board if they do not respect the rules, don't you? Could we expand it to embrace the new regulations? I would suggest to make a poll about it, but as there is nobody else, there's no reason for that. What do you say, Ferret?

Malishas, After much meditation on the subject, I changed my view: I now see this board as an 'ACT' of extreme love towards a very 'philosophical' movie, whatever you consider it to be. This forum is almost a COLLECTOR of SOULS, if you want. Even a FLAG, even if not a "visual" one. Different concepts which truly aim to realize a single purpose: to make 'STALKER' be viewed by more people possible. In my ultimate perspective, to register yourself to this board represents your 2 virtual cents of "pure love" to 'STALKER', and that's enough for me. I know, I firstly dream about a more active message board, but I'm glad that so much people are showing up, thus registering ---> which eventually means that they truly enjoys the movie and try to figure out the bigger scheme of the things behind it.

First of all, I'd like to say I'm very glad I found this site! I've seen the movie for the first time quite recently, though I've heard of it before. And I'm hooked on it now ;D I must've seen it at least a dozen times by now, and it keeps getting better and better ;D Then again, I always take care to make the right atmosphere (watching at night, lights off, stuff like that) Anyways, I just wanted to say that, while I do not find the poster on top of the page scary, it *is* somewhat inconvenient. But I can try whip up a collage of graphics, I just need some time to do so, as I want to gather some nice screencaps first Regards, Thomas

Hi Thomas and welcome! I haven’t kept count of how many times I’ve watched the film. It’s not as many as you have but the first time was for many years ago. I’ve got it on VHS recorded from TV but decided that the next time I watch it, it’s gonna to be on DVD. So I’m currently trying to get hold of a disc of high quality with the original mono soundtrack. It’s said that RUSCICO is the best choice for that but there’s no mono version in their catalogue. I’ve made a request to them but have got no answer so far. It would be good if you could come up with a new pic for the top of the page. Although I’ve actually started to like the poster in some way, I didn’t at first and the first impression is important to attract new members. Or should we see it the other way round maybe, that all popularization is a bad thing and that the true believers will find their way anyhow?

I think you should be grateful that this board HAS members at all, apart from yourself Ferret. When I came here this board was totally empty. I don't mean to sound provoking at all, I am just stating the facts. And besides, I don't think that many people can get into STALKER, not the internet surfing ones anyway. I don't think there is a solution. I think the problem lies in the movie itself-face it, there just isn't so much to talk about. Or rather, it's not easy to talk about it. There is a zone. There is a stalker and two other men. And they came to the zone and saw it was not what they expected it to be and then went back. It's easy enough to think about the meaning, but not at all easy to talk about it, to put the words on it.

Yet, it's quite possible to go beyond the film, talking things more or less connected with the film, its director and people involved; to reveal and study the neverending context, i'd say - the way, the truth and the life.

I agree with MaKS. It might be difficult to put the words on what the film gives us emotionally but we can always discuss the things around, like the making of the film, the actors involved, the other films of il Mastro etc
