Okay, let's put it straight once for all:
I'm *EXTREMELY* disillusioned now. Leto Atreides and Malishas PLUS 2 or 3 or 4 "partially active" members doesn't truly make this the "board" I was dreaming for. I wanted to build a place (a 'Zone'?) where you could almost "feel" the movie and all its ongoing energies into yourself, making you even more 'angry' to discuss everything you didn't "grasp" through your mind, but caught by your SOUL and your HEART.
Did I succeded in it? Not yet.
I'm looking towards possible solutions... In the while I'm thinking to make the board TOTALLY "closed" to guests. It's not a solution for the registered members who still don't share their intellect and soul with us, but at least I'm shaking the waters.

well, I came to think that closing the board for guests would have the reverse effect, that is, result in increased number of silent accidental visitors. perhaps you should change the politics of registration. everyone for example could be able to read and write, and those who appear to be active, could become real members. the problems would be, for the first, identification of such semi-members and evaluation of their activities, for the second, facing the fact HOW FEW WE ACTUALLY ARE. the first one could be possibly solved (you know the technical side better), the other one....at least we are SOME. for otherwise there would be no other way out than to carry out the Stalker II scenario.....I'm in for it, if you find it necessary, brother......in Zone we trust.......

I am English and have become rather obsessed with Tarkovsky having seen Stalker twice now. Both times under the influence of pharmaceuticals. But I am sure I would love it just as much if not more in a "pure" state.

So far, 2 converts. a lot of people struggle with the pace of the movie (which I love) - slow films are difficult for Hollywood addled English minds. It is hard to get people to concentrate long enough to 'get' the film.

You need to see 'STALKER' on your own, really ----> this is an 'individual' movie, not a 'collective' one. I think you must be alone in order to 'penetrate' in STALKER's world. It's a state of mind hard to achieve when you're in good company.

Hi Everyone, I just got into the Zone  First off, I want to thank you for creating a forum for the fans of Stalker and the great artist Andrei Tarkovski. It's not been a very long time since I got into his works, but just a few months. Yet I have been highly influenced. Let me introduce myself a bit. My name is Metin, 26 years old boy from Istanbul, Türkiye. Recently I work for an advertising company. I'm obsessed with Russian Literature and I'm also slowly learning Russian language, I have not made a long headway so far though. Well, Tarkovski and his works mean alot to me because in my life I have come to a point where one has to find new ways to make life worth living. Before I watched Nostalghia, my favourite director was Woody Allen and my favourite movie was "Love and Death". Yet, the "sculpting in time" concept has greatly changed my perspective on life and all I had accumulated in my mind until then as the merits of my intellectual endeavours was devastated to collapse. The first Tarkovski movie I saw was Nostalghia. And then Zerkalo, Solaris, Stalker and Ivanovo Detstvo. I have not seen the other movies yet. To take a (personal) analytic approach, in Zerkalo I found my own unnoticed emotions expressed in a manner which helped me revive the desire to live. The moment I watched the scene where the woman was in a hurry becasue of the mistake she might have made in the publishing house and the other lady who was going after her, I felt that what we take from life is in fact what we give to the life. I may be unable to depict the expression very well but I'm sure you understand what I mean. Oh well, I must mention Domenico (of Nostalghia). His speech at the end of the movie was of a great importance to me. Here's my new pact: it must be sunny at night and snowy in August. Great things end, small things endure. Society must become united again instead of so disjointed. We must go back to the main foundations of life without dirtying the water.
What kind of world is this if a madman tells you you must be ashamed of yourselves! "On a personal note, I'm not able to watch any movies lately as I have left home and had to change my job, additionally I've been dealing with some health problems. Hope to get back to normal soon and continue living the way I wish to. OK. I've blubbered enough. Glad to have found this forum... My serious suggestion to improve the forum + get more activity going; Get rid of the HUGE poster image at the top!!! Make a small banner instead... it's insane having to scroll down a whole page every time a forum page loads! Very offputting! Also making joining not require a wait for approval would be good. I find that if I join a forum with a comment in mind but then can't post straight away I sometimes don't really bother to return for a while, if at all, and the comment never gets posted. I guess you;d require some good anti-spam measures if you make it easier to join tho. Anyway, good work for setting it up, hope you'll take my comments on board, especially about the poster image! |

Happy to find one more Stalker here yet I'm feeling scared here with all this silence. May be that's the impact the forum admins are aiming to make on us. Not sure. But I really wonder why people are so quiet around here.
I agree upon the poster thing. Also as you said waiting fro approval kills the curiosity. I've survived it though.

The Zone is the most silent place in the world, and respect we show. though anyway, come forth with the ideas thee carry..
I do not quite agree about the poster, finding it, again, a tribute to that same place, where no straight paths are.
and Ferret can explain to you the registration stuff.

I like the fact that it takes a bit of work to get into this forum, that reflects the movie. You might consider making people write an essay on the film just to register. The only problem is that so far the work doesn't seem to have paid off for much...where are the discussions? Where's the in-depth visual analasis? And so on. Let's go!
Over the past few months, Tarkovsky has become one of my favorite filmmakers, as I have begun watching his movies over and over and studying them. He is so unique, yet not very often praised as one of all time's elite filmmakers. At least in America.
