What the movie better known by the general public - the so-called "casual" viewers - either in Russia and in the rest of the world? In terms of both commercial and critical success.
What's the most "profitable" Tarkovsky movie to date?

From this post: www.imdb.com/name/nm0001789/board/flat/390876It looks like 'STALKER' is everybody's favourite, which is a really great!!! So, at least fan-wise, 'STALKER' is the absolute winner of the contest. Again, the poll refers to the commercial success achieved in the world, so I'm looking for the final result.

There're mostly people who know A. T.'s films good enough. I tend to believe there are many of those who like only Solaris (it's so sci-fi!) and dislike Tarkovskiy in general (boring!) - so i think truly popular is Solaris, while Stalker is top among those who like A. T.'s films in general.

They keep to discuss the movie as the "russian counterpart" of that horrid title, '2001 A Space Odyssey', which I find a terrible mess in almost every department.

The Russian answer to ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ I would say. That was at least much of Tarkovsky’s intention with the film…

I'd have to go with Solyaris as well. Unlike Tarkovsky's other films, Solyaris is the only one that was remade recently; that could only have added to it's mainstream recognition.
