There has been half a dozen editions of The Sacrifice on DVD, none of them too good. Couple of years ago, I acquired Offret, published on a new DVD by the Svenska Filminstitute. Many of you may have heard of it (and maybe own it), but just in case, I would like to bring it to your attention. The transfer of this film is just exceptional and in my opinion the best ever produced. The colors are fantastic with no hint of digital manipulation and the contrasts are sharp. I would choose the word "luminous," in the real sense of the word, to describe this production, from start to finish. From what I learned from the manufacturer, there has been no cropping (or at least it is minimum). The Extras include "Directed by Andrei Tarkovsky," 1988, 1hr 41 min, in Swedish with English subtitles, and "Memories of Tarkovsky," in English or Swedish language, both most interesting. The DVD is Region 2, PAL,. Have a look: you won't be disappointed.
