Hey guys, Since the very first time I've watched "Stalker", i don't have an impression that Stalker would give 2 lond matches to Writer, just before the 'meat-chopper" without being sure that the Writer won't get through. He is not so cruel. He had a personnal motivation behind, yes. But to send a man to death... no, he wouldn't do that. I'm sure. Stalker knew that The Writer will survive, because Zona warned him in the beginning. Writer came to Zona with an honest feeling, being in trouble. He couldn't die there. While professor could, i guess. So, i'm right or not? And any other hypothesis please.

That what Stalker was saying right after the meatgrinder - that he knew Writer will make it. On the other hand, he didn't seemed so sure about it in the tunnel itself. I guess Stalker believed in Writer, but had some doubts about it... the whole tunnel episode looks like a sort of test to me. It is as if Stalker been asking Zone itself: Are you sure about him? Is he the right man? Here he is, in the meatgrind - are you (Zone) sure you're going to let him through? Something like that.

I agree, Maks. That was a pure psychological testing, no matter whether we believe in Zone's existence as such, or treat it otherwise.
You got it, in these questions, the dialog between Stalker and the Zone, the essence of the sequence.
