Hello everyone. In all existing DVD versions of stalker, the sepia scenes are very contrasty as you can see here: www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompare5/stalker3.htmI really like the very contrasty picture but do any of you know if the orginal had this much contrast? was this Tarkovsky's intention? And I'm hoping for a better release of stalker without the jitter/float problem! Thanks.

Sorry for my lack of erudition on this subject, but I do not understand your " jitter/float problem" comment. Could you comment on your comment? Thanks. Daniel

Me too... I watched the Artificial Eye dvd on a projector the other day, was great to se it again of course but I did find this problem annoying... Not sure why this is, never seen this problem in other DVDs, even very contrasty ones.. It's some sort of compression issue i guess,, but never seen another DVD that has this kind of effect so noticably, even really cheapo releases of trashy films... So you'd expect better for Tarkovsky! daniel, the problem is that the brightest areas of the film, ie hilights, kind of seem to 'float' independently of the darker parts of the image in some shots... it's especially noticable in the very high contrast sepia shots.
