"Stalker"
I know there are two very different pronunciations for Americans and Europeans. I'm wondering about how the Russians manage to spell it too.
Anyway:
"Stolkar" - Isn't it?

Well, I am not Russian but recently I watched a documentary about Tarkovsky and his wife pronounced it "Stalker", simply. Not "Stawlker" as Englishmen and Americans do.

Well, I am not Russian but recently I watched a documentary about Tarkovsky and his wife pronounced it "Stalker", simply. Not "Stawlker" as Englishmen and Americans do. So the Italian dubbers were right about the point! Astonishing! You know, I'm Italian. The dubbing of the movie was excellent, but this issue bothered me a lot, because I heavily supposed the spelling of the word "Stalker" was wrong. Anyway, was my 'previous' spelling right, somehow? Where do you come from?

I come from the former Yugoslavia actually. But I live in Norway. Yes, I guess your spelling was correct.

first off, GREAT IDEA WITH THE FORUM ! all my respect goes toward you Ferret. But now to be on topic, i read/watched somewhere that they used the name Stalker (the actual english spelling) because they thought it sounded perfect for the character, PLUS (and i don't quite believe this) they thought it meant 'guide'. that's my two cents...btw, Ferret, i'm a huge fan of Italian dubbing, but do you prefer the dubbed version to the original?

Muffinass,
All my respect goes to you, however. You're here for a reason, that's clear. All of you love the movie, indeed. That's what really matters, indeed. I only created this forum in order to bring "us" Stalkers back home! (A place to call home, at least - if there's one).
"Stalker" means "who uses to hunt in a quiet, slow-paced way revolving on sensory qualities and precision". Not your average hunter, as you'd notice. I'm still figuring out how to spell the name in a proper way. What is the correct english pronunciation? Tell me more, please.
As far as concerning the dubbing, I always prefer the original one, but keep in mind the Italian dubbing is also excellent!
Many thanks, glad you're here, stay tuned.

A Freeman? No. Unless you are hinting at The Fremen from "Dune", the film where I took my name from. But Leto Atreides wasn't a Fremen either.
