I came across the following poem some time ago, and while it isn't directly related to Stalker, I still think it kind of fits in the context. If the mods feel otherwise, don't hesitate to delete this thread. In The Desert
In the desert I saw a creature, naked, bestial, Who, squatting upon the ground, Held his heart in his hands, And ate of it. I said, "Is it good, friend?" "It is bitter — bitter," he answered, "But I like it. Because it is bitter. And because it is my heart."
It was written by Stephen Crane ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Crane)

I love it !! The Stalker is the man alone in the desert/Zone as he is the only person who understands ,respects and is able to commune with the zone ...yet it consumes him in a way he finds irresitable and also deadly ... he savours the flavour or feeling of it all ... I can see the connection ... Angels in the Zone I think so ...
